Remedial Massage Therapist
Melissa is a qualified Remedial Massage Therapist. Melissa trained as a Neuromuscular Massage Therapist in New Zealand before moving to Perth 3 years ago.
Melissa completed her Bachelor in Health Studies (Neuromuscular Massage Therapy) part time over 5 years, initially finding passion working with elite sports athletes and travelling to the USA with a crew of dancers for 4 years, and is now incorporating her learning of psycho-social aspects and further study in Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) to help clients with chronic pain and lymphoedema.
Melissa’s style of massage has adapted over the years and is a good mix of remedial and relaxation or MLD, depending on the client’s needs at the time of treatment. Melissa’s extensive training and years of experience has taught her that stress and trauma can store in the body and present as pain, and deep tissue massage isn’t always the best way to ease it out. MLD has also been a good adjunct for chronic pain as its gentle yet pain free and can help to ease pain in chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, and also acute and chronic injuries such as a sprained ankle, 20 year old whiplashes, or immediately before and after surgery.
In her downtime, Melissa likes to read, go camping with friends and travel overseas. Melissa also loves animals and has been pet sitting for the past year in different suburbs around Perth getting to know her new home.
